It is not possible to create large pieces of work when on a sailboat. I therefore decided to downsize and make some postcard size watercolours on the trip, just for fun.
The initial ones I didn’t feel were successful but I just continued making them anyway. They were semi impressionistically realistic allover the place attempts created in a bit of chaos with sails floating above my head and constant interruptions. But I am happy I made them because I feel making them got me to the next stage.

After 1 week of being away from city life, in the middle of nowhere, on a yearly 3 day “retreat” with mu husband, I decided to make something completely different. I wanted calmness and quiet and something that was a simplified, minimalistic version of what I thought I was looking at. I wanted to strip “the view” to absolute basics. To a memory of the view. Memory of water. Memory of feeling relaxed.
And when I finished I felt much happier with the result than with the initial ones.
