SADDLERS WELLS “THE WEDDING”

I was really moved by The Wedding by Gecko shown at Saddlers Wells East. The whole show was performed and danced so beautifully, I loved that every one of 8 performers spoke their own language, even when they were talking to each other, it was very moving. And the togetherness at the end, the joyful stomping of feet and clapping of hands was so ritualistic powerful that everyone in the audience started to clap and stomp and join in. We all need that togetherness in a world that feels now more divided than it’s ever been.

The Wedding is inspired by the complexities of human nature: the struggle between love and anger, creation and destruction, community and isolation. Part of MimeLondon, everything is laid bare for the audience to see in this reimagined version of physical theatre company Gecko’s beloved production.

In a blur of wedding dresses and contractual obligations, Gecko’s extraordinary ensemble of international performers guide audiences through a dystopian world in which we are all brides, wedded to society.

Combining movement, imagery and provocative narratives in Gecko’s trademark style, The Wedding brings matrimonial contracts into question with an emotionally charged and spectacular performance.

We all want to believe in our journey, but where are we heading? Is it too late to stop, to go back, to fall in love, to start again?” https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/gecko-the-wedding/
