POURING PAINTS IN THE STUDIO. SAVING ONE PAINTING, CREATING ANOTHER

For the past few days I’ve been trying to save my reclaimed fridge door Triptych paintings from disintegrating. After a sudden stop in the car The Crone fell on The Maiden and scraped massive chunks of paint which already seemed to be chipping. So I spent all of yesterday trying to paint over. The process:

  • pouring paint, watching the paint under bubble up, scraping everything off
  • pouring paint again, some more paint bubbling up, scrapinkg off again
  • getting really frustrated, scraping massive chunks off and layering some thick acrylic paint on with a brush as primer
  • pouring paint over that this morning, waiting to se what happens
  • noticing on the other side of the painting that what I poured and left with the underneath bubbling up looks actually quite ok

Frustrated with The Maiden I decided to give her a break and started on another new painting, “Tatry”, inspipred by my family trip to the Tatra mountains, which has already been primed using the “pretend concrete” spray. It is always so much fun to start something new rather than trying to fix something old that broke. I had so much fun pouring shades of green and some greay and white, watching the mountains grow. And the satisfied feeling of seeing the concrete texture underneath everything, this additional scruffy dimension. My kids popped around any my son exclaimed ” I want this in my room, I will pay for it!”

I think this peace is about something that makes me happy, places I think about when I feel close to my family, to my husband, when I feel relaxed. These fleeting moments are quite rare in my life of chaos and worry but when I manage to capture them, it’s a good feeling to know they exist
