PAWEL GRUNERT FURNITURE. DIED 02.2026. WORKING WITH WILLOW. METAL CHROME BASE FOR LAMP

I am fascinated by working in a traditional way with traditional materials, which is why I am so inspired by the work of Paweł Grunert, especially his wicker and epoxy resin chairs from the 1990s. I am interested in the combination of a traditional material like wicker with a contemporary liquid adhesive or binding agent, as well as the shaping methods he used—preserving, bonding, and consolidating the material into solid blocks and forms that feel highly contemporary: simple, almost geometric, raw, and not directly reminiscent of nature, yet somehow fitting perfectly within the natural environment.

I am also fascinated by the combination of wicker and metal in Grunert’s work, especially chrome. It gives wicker an entirely new, luxurious dimension.

During Milan Design Week 2026, presents the exhibition “The Shape of Belonging” with the participation of @ale.zawistowska and @pawelgrunert

The exhibition explores the relationship between craft, memory, and ancestry.

The presented works show how knowledge passed down through generations takes shape in contemporary forms. While diverse in material and aesthetics, they share a common origin – experience and intuition embedded in the act of making.

The exhibition approaches craft as a universal language, connecting traditional techniques with contemporary form. The show feature the SIE 46 armchair by Pawet Grunert and sculpturand chandelier by Aleksandra Zawistowska.
