“I BELIEVE IN MAGIC AND I KNOW IT’S NOT REAL” are Gia’s Metamodernist words I wanted to note down as I feel they fit my paper in terms of expressing the Metamodernist theory \u00a0but for me mostly because of their duality. We spoke a lot about the duality in me: the Eastern European being pushed out into the Western World after the fall of communism, leaving behind the past but remaining somehow part of the unbroken chain, the mitochondrial Eve<\/p>\n

or the everlasting thread connecting me to my mother, grandmother and great grandmother and the women who for generations have remained in the polish mountain villages. The duality between the magical intuitive connection I often feel while knitting or crocheting or embroidering, to my grandma and the lace artists from Koniakow village, and the Western analytical institutionalised, technology addict I have become. The duality which Jung kept seeing in himself and his mother, who was a “loving mother” by day but by night turned into a magical sorceress expressing the mystic insight of “the sort of mind which springs from natural sources, and not from opinions taken from books; it wells up from the earth like a natural spring, and brings with it the peculiar wisdom of nature.”<\/p>\n

Gia mentioned to treat the paper as one chapter of a long book I am planning to write.<\/p>\n

Additionally we discussed it might be helpful to find one overarching thing, whether it might be Place(Eastern vs Western or City vs Village) or maybe it’s a Tread or Chain, I don’t know yet.<\/p>\n

Another helpful thing was trying to see the duality as a potential inspiration for the structure of the paper: could I use the interviews and the dialogue for the more spontaneous, intuitive voice and contrast that with the papers I am reading and books and documentaries on the western artists? For the interviews with Koniakow women we discussed that I would not be able to use really long quotes as there’s only a certain amount of words that can count as a quotation. Since I hate papers that are just dry and academic and include only words I decided I liked the idea of including the quotes from the interviews as images, maybe in a form of written animation or embroidery?<\/p>\n

Also thinking about creating w piece combining technological e waste with the tactile textile work by wrapping old iphones and old ipads into lace, placing lace on top of the screen to obstruct the persons view while simultaneously showing something on the screen that the person will be dying to see but will not be able to as most of the images(slideshow) will be covered with lace. They will be forced to just be with the lace, touching it, feeling it, dealing with the frustration of not seeing the images, imagining.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
