A very interesting and informative lecture, I feel there was a lot of new and interesting information I haven’t thought about before. I loved seeing the examples of “What is Metamodernism?” in film and found it quite challenging to find the same examples in Art. I did however, just have another thought
If the theory that the end of Modernism was the US atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
and the end of Postmodernism was the 9/11 terrorist attack on Twin Towers
Metamodernism started…
but what about Covid? Because that changed absolutely everything. We talk about Metamodernism existing now and the David Letterman and Howard Stern interview example from 2018 was very sweet to see but simultaneously we have the far right believers in the US(women included) wanting womens voting rights to be taken away and use the male vote as One family vote! We have far right psychopaths in the UK proposals that include freezing all non-essential immigration, mass deportations of asylum seekers arriving by small boats, and the revocation of Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for hundreds of thousands of existing migrants. We’re suddenly finding ourselves back to Hitler and Stalin times! I don’t know what to think and how to feel anymore but completely lost and suddenly think I’m back in the 1950s and sometimes even 1800s.
I guess that might make me feel better about my work and how chaotic it is, because chaos and extreme polarisation, irony and hope, fear and anger, resignation and fight are all the things I am feeling now, all at the same time. Everything, everywhere, all at once.
