18.05.26 EAST LONDON THESE THINGS STILL HAPPEN

A situation at an East London Romford Road Car Dealership

Car aircon not working 3rd year in a row, in a car bought brand new 3 years ago. Job booked and confirmed, courtesy car confirmed through booking, suddenly a call that courtesy car not available but I can arrange one myself and come drop off my car. Also, even if you book the next appointment(which is not available until July), there is no guarantee you will be getting a courtesy car.

In reaction to this, since there is 30 degree heat approaching and we’re constantly driving two exhausted sweaty children around, we prepared and went to threaten the dealer using legal terms such as “customer rights act” and “failure to comply with warranty terms”. My husband was talking to the guy and the guy was quietly listening to everything my husband had to say. He then started responding, I jumped in trying to add something and I heard: “Don’t interrupt me when I’m speaking as I wasn’t interrupting when you were speaking”. I was in such a shock I didn’t know how to react, my mind went completely blank. SOmehow, he didn’t interrupt my husband, but felt it was totally OK to shut me down when I was talking.

He then seemed very dissapointed when he asked for the main driver’s license and I presented him with one. He looked at my husband in disbelief and asked “Can I have the license of the main driver?” When he realised I was the main and only one with a UK license, authorised to dirve the car, he went out of his way to figure out how to help my husband with his EU license, so that he was able to drive the car as well, as a driver, even if not the main driver.

What I wanted to do: scream in his stupid face, punch his face and ask him, if this was the type of disrespectful behavior his dad expressed towards his mum, or his sister, shutting her down as soon as she opened her mouth?!?

What I did: stood there quietly boiling and biting my nails, drinking water to calm myself down and not “cause a scene” because I really needed the car to get to the gallery with all my work. Biting my own nails so actually self harming myself instead of standing up for myself and other women who will experience this.
